OUR COMMITMENT TO SAFETY
At MasTec Utility Services, safety isn't just a priority—it's a core value. Safety is a mindset and an attitude that all MasTec employees carry with them on a daily basis. As a member of the NCCR, National Safety Council, OSHA Electrical Transmission & Distribution Safety Partnership , and numerous other safety organizations and safety auditing programs, MasTec is committed to continuous improvement in safety with a common goal of zero injuries, as well as taking an active part in initiatives that include the development of "Best Practices" and training programs.
SAFETY PHILOSOPHY
Our internal safety philosophy enables us to develop and enforce workplace practices that foster a safe work environment and promote a strong work ethic among our employees. It is based upon the following principles:
- Incidents and injuries can be prevented, and all workplace hazards can be safeguarded.
- Each member of our organization, from management on down, is responsible for preventing incidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses and will be held accountable.
- Training employees to work safely is essential and is the responsibility of management and supervisors.
- Occupational safety and health are part of every employee's total job performance.
- Working safely is a condition of employment.
- The prevention of personal injuries and incidents is good business.
We maintain a proactive safety culture and are committed to preventing illness and injuries because we care deeply about everyone going home safely.
AN INDUSTRY LEADER
In 2004, we joined the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the IBEW, industry groups (EEI, NECA), and several other contractors in founding the ET&D Strategic Partnership—one of only a few strategic partnerships between employers and OSHA. The Partnership's goal is to reduce worker fatalities, injuries, and illnesses in the electric line construction industry.
As a result of the Partnership, the industry implemented an OSHA approved T&D 10-hour training program for electrical power employees and a Supervisory Leadership Program known as the ET&D 20-Hour Program. We train all supervisors and managers (in all lines of business) using this program.
The Partnership has achieved more than a decade of progress improving ET&D work safety and health.
