MasTec is supporting a multi-year Lateral Hardening Program, a systemwide initiative to convert overhead distribution laterals to underground infrastructure and significantly reduce weather-related outages across Florida. The program targets laterals with recurring reliability challenges, vegetation exposure, or aging equipment. MasTec provides the full project lifecycle, from engineering assessments and construction-ready design packages to coordinated customer outreach and optimized underground installation, ensuring each lateral is modernized efficiently and with minimal community disruption.

Once underground systems are energized, MasTec safely removes legacy overhead circuits to complete the transition to a cleaner, more resilient distribution network. Our teams perform precision locates, directional boring, transformer installation, overhead service conversions, and final pole and conductor removal, followed by site restoration. This comprehensive approach strengthens system performance while supporting long-term investment in grid resilience, storm hardening, and enhanced reliability for customers statewide.
